Undeniably, Philippines suffers from poverty. TRUTH HURTS! The "limos" scenario illustrates that in our country among the key factors contributing to poverty children listed those which can be seen as consequences of an individual choice or experience (excessive alcohol consumption, drug abuse, laziness, inability to cope with life problems, low level of education). Poverty and extreme poverty is everywhere. Extreme poverty means that households cannot meet basic needs for survival. They are chronically hungry, unable to get health care, lack safe drinking water and sanitation, cannot afford education for their children and perhaps lack rudimentary shelter- a roof to keep rain out of the hut.To address this problem the government should embark on a robust and sustained, pro poor growth that aims at sustaining basic services to the poor. This is a fiscally- conscious matter that our government officials should find ways to alleviate poverty in our country. The sharpest reduction in poverty will come about when not the government spend most but when the economy grows the most.
Philippines is poor despite all the natural resources because people are unable to have good basic education, people are not able to impart relevant skills that matter most nowadays, and as a result we are unable to get productive work out of them. But if with productive capability, access, and reputation, the poor can become like the non-poor; that are able to exercise their freedom in choosing a better life. The lives of the poor are precarious, dangerous, and disadvantaged. However, they could survive if only they will strive more to overcome difficulties in life and if they have the courage to move forward and be positive.
I hope someday as we reach our goals, we must do something to help other people and to give light or hope to those people who are greatly in need. I hope to see no children seeking money in the streets and no more beggars to encounter. If we want change let us start first within ourselves...not everyone can make the changes required but if have the desire, we can achieve a way out of poverty.
